Kobelco SK140SRLC-7 Review

The new ‘7’ series Kobelco SK140SRLCs are here and do they ever live up to the hype!

Building upon the outgoing ‘5’ series, the 7 Series features a new design that offers increased power, speed, and safety along with easier controls, and enhanced comfort.

Anyone in the market for a 14 ton excavator needs to have the new Kobelco SK140SRLC-7 on their shortlist to check out.

Updated Engine. More Power. Increased Lift Capacity.

The updated Isuzu Motors Ltd 2,999 cc turbo charged diesel engine has been created to be Tier IV emissions compliant, while at the same time gaining a significant 10% increase in engine output and 11% increase in lift capacity as compared to the outgoing SK140SRLC-5 model.

Power increases from a net 95.6HP to a 105HP while overall lift capacity increases to 8040lbs. Couple this with a new hydraulic system and the 7 series is able to reduce the digging cycle time by 10%.

Visibility and Safety

The 14 tonne SK140 is one of the smaller excavators that Kobelco offers, but even so, the 7 series comes with bright LED exterior lights and 3 side safety cameras as that feed into a huge 10 inch LCD monitor – all as standard equipment.

Currently the largest in the industry, the 10” LCD monitor allows operators to be more aware of everything that’s around them and provide important information about the machine.

Additionally should anything go wrong, the SK140SRLC-7’s now features a standard ROPS & FOPS certified cab to help protect the operator.

Creature Comfort Cab

More power and more visibility is great, but the cab is where you’ll end up spending your entire working day. Luckily, Kobelco pulled out all the stops in the 7-series cab.

The SK140SRLC-7 new features Grammer brand air ride suspension seat standard to help absorb all the bumps and shocks. Increased vents distribute the air the HVAC system provides. Ergonimcal levers to reduce operator fatigue and adjustable pilot valves help accommodate for any type of operator.

All this to make the cab of the SK140SRLC-7 one of the most comfortable places on the work site.

Enhanced Peace of Mind

Kobelcos are known for their reliability and the 7 series seems to be even better built as Kobelco is confident enough to increase their standard warranty from 3 years / 3000 hours on the 5 series to 4 years / 4000 hours on the new 7 series.

As good as the 5 series SK140SRLC was, the new 7 series is more high-tech, more comfortable, and more reliable than the outgoing model. If you’re in the market for an excavator in this weight range, you need to consider the new 7 series Kobelco.
